The Honda, after overtaking the Audi, attempted to switch back to the left-hand lane, resulting in a collision with the Audi. The impact of the collision caused the Audi to be catapulted over the central reservation and collide with two vehicles traveling in the direction of Cologne.
Two occupants of a vehicle traveling on the BAB 3 in the direction of Cologne were slightly injured in the accident. Unfortunately, in one of the two vehicles, a 20-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman were fatally injured at the scene of the accident.
An expert was called in to assist in reconstructing the course of the accident. A police helicopter also took aerial photographs of the accident scene for further investigation.
The BAB 3 was closed in both directions from 19:30 until the early morning hours to allow for a thorough investigation and clearance of the accident site.
